Radio Control (R/C)

My first R/C toys were a couple of Auldey 1:32 scale R/C cars.

I'd like to build and fly an R/C mini or even micro aeroplane and have visited a number of Stik Flyer and MAV (Micro Air Vehicle) sites to obtain more info. I'll probably concentrate on electric-powered R/C toys/models but I think the jet powered model planes are just amazing!

The biggest problem I have with R/C is the lack of space where I live to operate them. I live in a big city full of multi-storey buildings with not much space inbetween!

Once my knowledge of robotics and R/C has improved, I'd like to start a project which will blend the best of both of these disciplines. Definitely NASA's Sojourner Mars Rover has inspired me to want to start such a project.

Good tidings and hop-ups to all :)

More info about this R/C plane to follow once I've had a chance to fly it.

I'm hoping I can test it out in the nearby sports hall ;-)

Here it is at last ;-)

Apart from another LxxChar-G, I also bought this LxxChar-G auto modellista set for US$6.80 on 2003/02/18.

It has two speeds which are controlled by a button on the top right of the remote. The default speed is quite slow (useful I guess for tight cornering) and with the button depressed it's speed is similar to a standard LxxChar-G. It also comes with two bodies. One is a Toyota Supra and the other is a transparent Nissan Skyline GTR.

I bought a couple of Lxx Hobby's LxxChar-G's (Tomy BitChar-G clones) on 2002/12/17 for US$5.80 each.

The dimensions of the car are L63mm x W34mm x H26mm.

The 9V battery in the photo was included to provide scale. Actually only two AA batteries are needed for the controller and the car already comes with it's own mini NiCD battery.

I bought a couple of 1:32 scale, Auldey Race Tin series II cars on 2002/10/02 for US$7.70 each! I read that they're based on Kyosho's Palm Runner R/C mini cars. The remote control unit looks very similar to the one included with Takara's DigiQ micro R/C cars.

Auldey won't be winning any prizes for originality but they're great fun to play with and the price is right ;-)

Update: A relative asked me how big are the above 1:32 scale cars :) Oops! I'll make sure I include dimensions with all R/C toys in the future ;-)

FYI, the above silver Mercedes CLK-GTR is L150mm x W65mm x H50mm.
